To verify that the transformer is the problem, disconnect the wires going to the lights. Then plug the transformer in and check the opener. If it will not work, unplug the transformer and check the opener again.
If the opener works, I recommend replacing the transformer. Even if the transformer is working, it could be putting out interference.
