Through the Office of Special Education Programs OSEP,Teacher Quality Enhancement TQE grants and State Personnel Development Grants SPDG, instructional units in science, ELA, social studies and math were developed and are available at. In 2011-12, SPDG also funded the development of reading-writing connected units aligned to Delaware English Language Arts/Literacy Standards. Model Units developed by Delaware teachers participating in DDOE's Reading/Writing Project.Units showcase the use of learning progressions to inform instruction and the formative assessment cycle. The Literacy Cadre invited content partners from science, social studies, and CTE to engage in a year-long project with the Literacy Design Collaborative. While all modules were reviewed via a rigorous vetting cycle, three modules received exemplar status and were posted on the National LDC site.
Teachers report that their work on the LDC modules raised their expectations for student work and helped them increase the rigor of writing assignments. The content teachers involved with the work felt the LDC modules helped them better understand how to infuse literacy instruction while also enhancing their subject matter instruction.
LDC leads to teacher instructional shifts and improved student outcomes which prepare our students to be college and career ready.
